Today I saw yet another contact of mine planning his future for an MBA or for an MS @ US to work for yet another MNC which will pay him great packages. Well here is something that the person advised me to do. ..

“ Mitesh, you should really go for an MBA,  you really get good package in marketing or finance once you join a MNC. Or rather go to US , India mein kuch nahi rakha hai. There you really are wasting your time here. . .. .  blah blah blah”

This was yet another piece of shit that I heard from a student graduating from Mumbai University. Well then what has that got to do with my article .. . A LOT.

Read this thing from a blogspot

I think the reality is that India lacks innovation. And the question is can we Indians do that? Absolutey!! Just look at the stats on the most innovative companies in silicon valley, and you will find that the good percentage of them are being headed by Indians! I think it's all about society and culture. As a society, India is conservative, not aggressive and not risk taking at all.. all the traits opposite for innovation to exist.
The attitude exists in the society and not in the people... I was heading the software development center for an innovative startup in India, and we were having tough time hiring people because we were very small. People prefer security of big brand companies rather than taking risk with smaller companies. This is only one of the example, but the point is that very few people in India are risk takers which is such an essential ingredient for innovation.”

Now that is the truth. India Lacks Innovation. And who are to be blamed for it. WE. Today any student thinks of contributing his/her knowledge to some big banner MNC rather than working for an Indian organisation. And the only reason is “Money”, “Opportunity to go abroad”. It is the criticizing attitude of people who just love western culture that force them thinking this. I may sound a bit biased at this point because i myself am working for an Indian Company. But ppl trust me, it’s a real satisfaction.

Now let us now stop stressing more on this Indian and Foreign company thing… . . if at all you disagree with my thoughts its perfectly fine after all opinions are the diverse ways of looking at the same singularity. But then ppl, why do we blame our country since we ourselves lack the attitude for contributing to our country. . . .

We carry on this thing with more other aspects and there are quite articles on internet that you would like to go through if you are interested in reading this. .  .. Raghav Kher, founder and CEO, Seventymm. who has worked for Microsoft for 8 yrs and has stared his own s/w firm has to say…….

Why do Indians lag behind in product innovation?

Ten years ago, Indians who were in Silicon Valley were engineers. After 1995, many company CEOs were Indians. Now, 50 per cent of Silicon Valley companies are run by Indians.

We have climbed the ladder to leadership positions. We have shown the world we can run companies. We started with business process outsourcing, started with small projects and are now getting bigger deals. We have done value addition to the existing projects.

Next step will be in product innovation. Small companies and start-ups are already making products. It is true that Indians who have gone to US have become good product developers but in India they are not as creative. I still can't figure out the reason.

For the complete story see this link. .. ..  http://inhome.rediff.com/money/2006/nov/08inter.htm

Here is what one of the founders of Infosys GopalKrishnan has to say. ..  .

“Indian firms don’t have sufficient brand equity in high-end consulting, but then if we look at the MNC subsidiaries in the country, they are all employing Indian professionals,” says Gopalakrishnan. He adds that it is not realistic to expect products like operating systems and databases to come from the Indian firms at present, because the Indian IT industry is not mature enough. But Gopalakrishnan feels that developing products is not a ‘capability issue’ for Indian firms. “Let’s not forget that even the Indian subsidiaries of these MNCs are employing Indian talent only,” he says.

For more details on that article see this link. . .. http://www.expresscomputeronline.com/20020211/indtrend1.shtml . The article is titled “Can Indian Software firms hold their own against MNC’s”

Apart from all these the other reasons coz of which there is a lack of innovation is that of changing Aims and Attitude towards work by an individual. Everyone of us might have witnessed secondary students say. . “I’d like to be an Engineer” or lets say “ a doctor”. But does this attitude remain the same after some work experience?? NO. Recently durying our exam days I had been to Mulund library where is made a contact with a student studying for MBA from NM college. The guy was a Computer Engineer and had worked with software company and this is what he had to give an explanation to me.. .

“you know what, at this point of time you are passionate about working in software but over time you will get tired working .. all the coding and designing n all. Usme kuch life nahi hai. So I thought of goin in marketing now coz usme jyaada paisa hai”

Yet another Bullshit. Be passionate towards your field. Make correct decisions when you start your career. Not just because you get more money here that you change your profession. Have a proper Aim in life.

Here I conclude and let us all contribute towards innovation and work for India hoping that one day we see an Operating System develop here. . . :) .
